The ultimate control of the Ship is in the hands of the Engineers in the engine rooms. Skilled Engineers are required to pioneer the working in the mechanical and electrical equipments throughout the ship. The work not only involves in supervising the operation but also in maintaining all the necessary complex equipments such as engine, boilers, refrigeration and air conditioning plant and the lifts and cranes just to mention a few of them.

Sophisticated modern equipments are created in a manner where manual operation is not needed. At the same time emergency calls is required to be answered at any time of the day.

It is definitely a challenging role – To mould the candidates to be a perfect cadet – Training is provided with utmost care. The level of training certificates is awarded at various levels.

The training begins with an orientation at a Maritime College the main theme concentrates on the fundamental knack, shipboard adaptation, fire fighting, individual alertness for survival and strengthening of all kinds of arising difficult situations. A detailed portfolio would be issued mentioning the various tasks required to complete your training cadetship Phases. This detailed portfolio would be handed over to you just before the commencement of the first training phase at sea.

There would be a hands-on training at sea, which is scheduled by completion of phase 1 at Maritime College. The candidates are required to put all their theories in practice. This training phase ensures smooth and first hand knowledge of work at sea.

After approximately three years you should qualify as a Watch keeping officer with an MCA/AMSA certificate of Competency. On completion of cadetship successfully you will be awarded with HND / Advanced Diploma Marine Engineering.

Even before your tenure of three years of training , you could master the skills of taking charge of a ship for about eight hours a day. The serving officer could excel his further services with his higher qualification level of MCA / AMSA certificate of competency as 2nd Engineer and Chief Engineer.
